About this course
The Majlis course is the premier championship golf course at the Emirates Golf Club. Designed by Florida based Karl Litten, it opened in 1988 & was the first grass course in the Middle East. Its named after the Arabic word for meeting place’ ! The greens on this 7301 yard, Par 72 layout are Bermuda grass as are the fairways. This championship course has hosted the Dubai Desert Classic from 1989 – 1990, 1992 – 1998, 2001 – 2013 & is also the host venue for the European Tour finale – The Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.
The Majlis is positioned between the 8th & 9th holes. The golf course has played host to the TOP golf players in the world & was rated amongst the TOP 100 courses in the world by the influential Golf Digest magazine a few years ago. The course is a very challenging layout for most golfers & has 43 bunkers & water in play on 8 holes. The course has very subtle changes in elevation – just as one would expect if the natural contours of sand dunes for eg was retained. This requires golfers to make good judgement calls on distance on plenty of holes. For the pros’ the course is a much easier challenge. During the tournament the rough is grown further & the dogleg’s on some of the longer holes have been reinforced with trees / hazards to make it tougher for the Pro’s with their booming drives.
The Emirates golf club also has the Emirates – Faldo course & a 9 hole, Par 3 course measuring 1239 yards with the longest hole being 194 yards from the Blue tees & the shortest a 96 yarder. Good to hone your par 3 skills & great for beginners.
The Clubhouse & practice facilities here are world class – there are 2 pro shops – one in the main clubhouse, which is mainly for accessories & consummables & the other alongside the driving range which houses a club fitting outlet with a huge range of golfing equipment to choose from.
